Wordless Wednesday: a lovely lil' playlist

Robinella and the CC Stringband
I burned a CD in college and named it "Kate". brilliant!
(of course I burned a jillion CDs in college and they were named ridiculously)
But, this CD in particular was and is one of my favorites.
It's good.
Robinella is on that cd.

Keb Mo
I'm pretty sure that I've mentioned this guy before.
This song makes me happy.
It's on the slideshow of me and GT that we showed at our rehearsal.

Please tell me that i have shared this gem with you?!
Dreamy, dreamy vocals of Amos Lee.
Before I left for HUF in 2005, mom bought me my first ipod. It was a pink mini and I still have it.
I loaded like 100 songs on it because I simply had no idea.
That summer in Florence, trying to sleep in a room with 7 other girls, i'd put my earphones in and be lullabied (yes, it is a verb right now) to sleep by this song.
I know it talks about the arms of a woman, but i'd ignore that part and melt into this tune.

Susan Tedeschi killing a Bob Dylan original.
This song has been covered by everybody and their mom
But, I like this cover.
Susan Tedeschi is one of my all-time fave woman vocals.
She can sing.

Kyla and I first heard this song at an Over the Rhine show in Dallas.
I was smitten.
Just a great little jig.

Enjoy some music today
Music, Sweet Music
Happy Wednesday,
Kate

R2Films has come out with a new faith-based movie!

We are attending the premier next Friday and it's black tie. How bout them apples?

Mom was asked to write the workbook/devotional book that goes along with the film.
So that churches or groups can watch the film and discuss the issues.
Cool, huh?
I'm super proud of her!

If you want to join us for the premier: go here
(it's at First West)
to buy tickets for other showtimes: go here
(also at First West)

Get your tickets before they sell out!

see ya there (with bells and whistles on),

Polyphonic is one of my faves and their shows are ridiculously awesome.
I miss living in Dallas for their shows alone.

Guess what?
Patrick just announced on Facebook that he'll be joining the robe wearing group for a few shows as a percussionist!
Do what?
Dream come true, especially for him who has loved Tim Delaughter since childhood.

Way to go Patrick!!!

Wordless wednesday: National Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention Day

We live in an unjust world
While I sit here in a comfy chair, typing on my laptop in a warm house, watching a flat screen TV... there are children without parents, people without homes, families without food and communities without health care.
Despite anyone or any groups effort to change these things, there will be injustice in this world.

Should our futile effort to change the world stop us from caring?
Should the inability to change the world keep us from trying to save one person?
Often, the task of finding a way to help make a change is overwhelmingly daunting.
We find other things to fill our thoughts, errands to fill our day and efforts to fill our caring hearts.
We want to help, but will it matter?
We see a need, but have no idea how to fill it.
Sometimes, when we begin our journey to help others we are discouraged by lack of results and negativity from others.

Let us not be discouraged, but rather act on our desire to make a change in this world full of injustice.
Let us be encouraged in knowing that our God has greater plans for ALL of us.
Those of us that place our hope in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ are assured that one day we will live in our eternal home.
This ugly, unjust world is not our home.

There are those that are suffering in this world.
Here is their story

Thankfully, this is not where we belong.
I love the simple message of this Building 429 song.

"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." -Revelation 21:4

Today is National Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention Day.
Join me in spreading the word about the sweet children that are lost in this unjust world and the wonderful people who are acting on their desire to put a stop to it!

Wordless Wednesday: Patsy

My Mamaw Lou always had a tape of Patsy Cline in her car for me growing up.
I wanted to listen to it every time I got in her car. No matter how far we were going.
This was and is one of my favorites.
Me and Mamaw Lou love some Patsy.

Wordless Wednesday: Grace

I've tried to find a vocal comparison for Grace Potter. But, she so quickly can transition from beautiful, angelic soft singing to that piercing awesome scream. There are few I can find like her. I enjoy her voice. I like the Nocturnals. i dig it. I also wish i could wear bangs liker her, but (sigh) my face is too round.
I still want always wanted to be in a rock band. Grace is my inspiration for girls leading a rock band.

Thanks Grace,
Kate

Wordless Wednesday bandwagon

if ever there were a bandwagon i'd want to jump on...it's this one.
you can title it Adele.

i love her voice.
the end.
Rolling in the Deep.
-Adele

American idol: another bandwagon i am happily riding along in.
i'll admit. at first, I was not a fan of Haley (probs because she's not Southern.j/k)
anyway...then she starting totally killing it each week and singing some rockin' tunes.
i love her voice, too.
rolling in the deep.
 covered by Haley Reinhart

my personal fave that she sang
House of the Rising Sun
covered by Haley Reinhart

Wordless Wednesday chilled out

Fleet Foxes

Van Morrison

Ryan Adams

Ray Lamontagne

Amos Lee ft.Norah Jones

Patty Griffin

Willie and Norah

Bon Iver

When people ask me, "what kind of music do you like". My answer is this, "good music".
Let me explain.
I don't particularly favor one genre over another, but always favor good music.
You know what I mean?
Music that moves me. Good harmonies. Great lyrics. Groovin' beats. Killer pipes.
I try not to let genres fence me in, but listen to all kinds of music. That way, I don't miss out on a great tune.

This post focuses on music(the songs and artists) that I listen to when I'm just chillin, or feeling emo. Most of these move my soul, some I just feel calmer when they're being played. Not much to it really. I just like 'em.

Of course, a whole post could be dedicated in its entirety to each of these artist, as I love each of them a whole lot. But, you can enjoy just a smidgen of each.

hope you can relax now,
Kate

wordless wednesday: dallas music edition

So, there will be words in this post... of course.
But, music will be the main focus.

Dallas is an awesome place to see someone perform live.
The venues are countless and each one unique, as are the artist that traipse through the city.
In Dallas, within the last 3 years, I have seen:
Over the Rhine, twice
Amos Lee
Celine Dion
Zac Brown Band
Polyphonic Spree, twice or thrice
Feist
My Morning Jacket
a little bit of Robert Earl King
Griffin House
Jimmy Buffett,twice
the Swell Season
and some smaller bands and others i've prob forgotten.
This is not to brag, but just paint a little picture for you of the vast array of folks that appear in D.
Crazy, huh?
and I probably missed 1 gagillion others. for sure.

And the venues...
the Palladium
Granada Theatre
House of Blues
just to name a few

here are some videos: the only ones i have actually
Feist at the Palladium Ballroom

OTR at HOB

good ole Gilleys/ Palladium Ballroom
