Wordless Wednesday: C1 Entertainment and Polyphonic Spree

Remember Patrick and his awesome work?
He is an incredible videographer and has once again produced a winner!

You can watch it here:

Polyphonic is one of my faves and their shows are ridiculously awesome.
I miss living in Dallas for their shows alone.

Guess what?
Patrick just announced on Facebook that he'll be joining the robe wearing group for a few shows as a percussionist!
Do what?
Dream come true, especially for him who has loved Tim Delaughter since childhood.

Way to go Patrick!!!

Perhaps i'll chop off my hair.

Wordless Wednesday: Grace

I've tried to find a vocal comparison for Grace Potter. But, she so quickly can transition from beautiful, angelic soft singing to that piercing awesome scream. There are few I can find like her. I enjoy her voice. I like the Nocturnals. i dig it. I also wish i could wear bangs liker her, but (sigh) my face is too round.
I still want always wanted to be in a rock band. Grace is my inspiration for girls leading a rock band.

Thanks Grace,
Kate

Shop Local!

Lately, i've enjoyed the local shops that good ole West Money has to offer.
and I would like to challenge you, along with challening myself to support local merchants.
I'm all about supporting the local economy and love finding that one of a kind piece from a local vendor.
Antique Alley in WM has been around since the 60's (not a real fact, but i think that's accurate and it sounds right) and has a great number of boutiques, antique malls and shops that tickle my fancy.
I'm making it a point to look local first!

Ela Vanila Jewelry at Brooklyn Co.

supes cute Christmas scarf from Salt & Pepper

a gift from mom found at Brazell & Co Home (looove)

a new(to me) antique cookie jar from Brazell & Co Home

My aunt Chrys and friend Jenny are selling some things here, too.
Their booth is very cute!

Pop Shop has some quirky gifts and awesome records
of course i like their shop...this is their facebook profile pic
i'm going to grab the new She&Him christmas record there soon! can't wait to get that baby crankin'
here's a sample
(simply because it's too good not to play over and over again..even in november..or july for that matter)

dreamy dreamy voice of Zoe D.

MoJo's is always a must when on Antique Alley

the best Louisiana t-shirts.

So, come on down to West Monroe and let me take you to some great local shops!
perfect for gift searching.

see ya soon,
Kate

Live from the Dominican

So, I'm in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic using wifi at a nice hotel on a mission trip. Don't worry(those of us who think one has to physically suffer to do good mission work), we will be leaving in the morning to travel to the small town of Neyba where we will conduct the VBS and medical clinic this week and spend time with the kids at the orphanage that WFR supports.
There is no wifi, electricity is inconsistent and a/c is a rare blessing. Feel better?

I feel very blessed to be presented with the opportunity to do medical missions. That is where my passion lies and really the reason that I am a nurse. But, sometimes when I plan 2 trips out of the country within 2 weeks... I miss my man.
He supports me and understands my heart. That is why I am here. But, it'd be better if he were here.

The only thing that I can find on tv that is in English/acceptable is this. Live from the Artist Den: David Gray. I'm more than ok with that.

Ive been reading this great book that mom bought for me.
Fun read. I enjoy reading about people that are self-sufficient and make it through hard times and utilize their resources. The Amish, Pioneers, etc. I don't know what kind of person that makes me, but I love learning about how to provide for yourself and how others have lived through pretty rough circumstances. So, this book is perfect for me! Thanks mammy!

Touch a Life kids Wordless Wednesday

I "had a moment" during this song.
These kids have my heart and quite a few of my tears.

Willie

Willie Nelson.
the Legend.

We were privelidged to see him live last month here in our own great metropolitan of Monroe.
He's 89, i think.

Here's how it went down.
The show started at 730. and, it started at 730.
Willie walked on stage, gave a two handed, above the head wave.
Then, grabbed his guitar, stood up to the microphone and started singing. Never stopped for 1.5 hours.
When I say singing...i mean a talk/sing. It was a talking melody of sorts.

Although, at his age, he is longer able to croon as he once did, he can still rip on the guitar.
It was amazing and I'm so glad we were able to enjoy his music live.
GT said, "he's like the Old Faithful...he's just something you gotta see."

this was the backdrop/theatrics.
some songs, they'd roll it up and the stage would be black.
then, the next song, they'd let it down.
really set the mood.

Also, he was off of the stage, in his RV and on the interstate in 15 minutes.
Everyone kept yelling "encore, encore".
I said "he surely has to do an encore". GT replied, "no, he doesn't. he's Willie".

and, he didn't.
He was headed out before all of us.
I think that means, he's made it.

one of my fave Willie songs

Wordless Wednesday bandwagon

if ever there were a bandwagon i'd want to jump on...it's this one.
you can title it Adele.

i love her voice.
the end.
Rolling in the Deep.
-Adele

American idol: another bandwagon i am happily riding along in.
i'll admit. at first, I was not a fan of Haley (probs because she's not Southern.j/k)
anyway...then she starting totally killing it each week and singing some rockin' tunes.
i love her voice, too.
rolling in the deep.
 covered by Haley Reinhart

my personal fave that she sang
House of the Rising Sun
covered by Haley Reinhart

happy wednesday folks!

what in the world???

So, this morning.
I was running on the treadmill at the gym. boooring. anywhoo....
there are tvs right in front of my face.
on the screen directly in front of me is this lady

on the next tv over is this person

ok. here's how i feel about it.
are you ready?

i am completely entertained by their "artistry" and creativity. these are very talented and risk-taking artist. that's why people like them, right? their music has that kind of beat that gets you hooked, they are always doing something new to get your attention, along with showing some skin...that doesn't hurt.
i'm not here to hate on them or judge them or act like i've never done anything wrong.
but, i will say this.
if they show these pop-culture icons during morning news programs...what in the world are they showing at night on non-family programs???
seriously, people!
and i consider myself a young, hip, with-it person. (maybe that's the problem)

have you listened to either of their latest song lyrics???
what are we trying to teach young girls these days?
i'm nervous like crazy to have a kid with this music being blasted at them from all angles.

i get it, really i do.
i understand why people are obsessed with artist like this. they are entertaining! that's what we all want out of the media...entertainment.
but, can we all just step back, listen to what these people are saying and make a good decision to turn that junk off???
why do we continue to support music, just because it's entertaining, that is spreading outright immoral messages? I will be the first to admit that I listen to some music that doesn't always share a good message. Guilty.
but, outright slander against Jesus and outright lyrics about raunchy sex? come on.

gooooooood night son.
i was embarrassed to be running in front of these tvs.
they were making me feel uncomfortable and we are thousands of miles away and separated by a tv screen.

ok, that's all.
not really, but i don't know what else to say right now.

to sum it up, what in the world is happening to kids these days(ha)?

happy friday btdubs,
kate

Wordless Wednesday chilled out

Fleet Foxes

Van Morrison

Ryan Adams

Ray Lamontagne

Amos Lee ft.Norah Jones

Patty Griffin

Willie and Norah

Bon Iver

When people ask me, "what kind of music do you like". My answer is this, "good music".
Let me explain.
I don't particularly favor one genre over another, but always favor good music.
You know what I mean?
Music that moves me. Good harmonies. Great lyrics. Groovin' beats. Killer pipes.
I try not to let genres fence me in, but listen to all kinds of music. That way, I don't miss out on a great tune.

This post focuses on music(the songs and artists) that I listen to when I'm just chillin, or feeling emo. Most of these move my soul, some I just feel calmer when they're being played. Not much to it really. I just like 'em.

Of course, a whole post could be dedicated in its entirety to each of these artist, as I love each of them a whole lot. But, you can enjoy just a smidgen of each.

hope you can relax now,
Kate

The day that changed our lives forever

I almost forgot.

Yesterday, April 18th, marks the date that I met my boyfran.
ain't he cute. that double plaid thing is hard to resist.
such a refreshing style.

one of our first photos together. pretty accurate prediction of our relationship.

our witnesses to our new love

the match making group.
actually just the cute girl on the end and her hubsters(he's the one with a pink lei). The Cones

can't you just see it in our eyes? (please ignore my awkward britches)

this is when GT asked me to marry him
j/k. but i did really like him by this point. it was probably the killer dance moves he was pulling off.

a perfect first date, i'd say.

I'm thankful for that Saturday in Frisco, Tx at Pizza Hut Park.
I'm thankful for Jimmy Buffett and his music and the ridiculous crowd it gathers.
I'm thankful for the Cones, Lauren and Patrick. They knew a match when they saw it and made it happen.
I'm thankful for the past 2 years with my man. We've been together since the minute we met.
He's a keeper and my favorite person in the whole world.
I'm thankful that he liked me back.

Here's some JB to send you on your way.
If you want to hear more about how much I love my boo, you can ask. I'll spare everyone else.

Fins up!

wordless wednesday: dallas music edition

So, there will be words in this post... of course.
But, music will be the main focus.

Dallas is an awesome place to see someone perform live.
The venues are countless and each one unique, as are the artist that traipse through the city.
In Dallas, within the last 3 years, I have seen:
Over the Rhine, twice
Amos Lee
Celine Dion
Zac Brown Band
Polyphonic Spree, twice or thrice
Feist
My Morning Jacket
a little bit of Robert Earl King
Griffin House
Jimmy Buffett,twice
the Swell Season
and some smaller bands and others i've prob forgotten.
This is not to brag, but just paint a little picture for you of the vast array of folks that appear in D.
Crazy, huh?
and I probably missed 1 gagillion others. for sure.

And the venues...
the Palladium
Granada Theatre
House of Blues
just to name a few

here are some videos: the only ones i have actually
Feist at the Palladium Ballroom

OTR at HOB

good ole Gilleys/ Palladium Ballroom
good times had by all

love me some music in Dallas fo sho

Potters Hand

I fought back tears during worship on Sunday morning.
Rows in front of me, I watched as 2 women who I love dearly wrapped their arms around a great woman whose heart is breaking.
There are few things more powerful than the people of Christ loving one another.

We were singing this beautiful song and you could just feel the love and strength being wrapped around this hurting sister by her friends. It was as beautiful of a sight as the song we were singing.

how do people deal with life without the hope of heaven?
how do people make it through tragedy without brothers and sisters in the Lord?

I praise God, not only for His love, but for the love of my eternal family.

Wednesday or Thursday lists

Obviously I am confused and no one has called me out on it.
My post from today, Thursday, contained the word Wednesday. This was done because I thought today was Wednesday...really? It even has the day at the top.
I even went to church last night. Perhaps it's time for me to get a job. I'm trying!
Help me Rhonda.
The reason no one commented on this brain-toot, I have concluded, is 1 out of 4 reasons:
1. no one, but my mom reads this and she is out of town
2.  no one cares
3. everyone thinks today is Wednesday too...lucky for me
4. it's not a big deal and i overreact sometimes

Moving on,
...this week was eye-opening to the fact that I no longer live in a big city.
these 3 things were not found:
1. yarn store (i needed an exact color and type)
2. cinnamon Life cereal (we LOVE this)
3. original light Silk milk (my lactose intolerance requires it)
Goodbye big city life and the convenience of finding anything you want anytime you want it.
Hello eating supper with my Mamaw Lou at Cracker Barrel.
I'll take the trade. Anyday. hands down.

p.s. I went to a small grocer. I know that wal-mart will have what I need. I was just being dramatic.

I was happy though, to come out of Mac's Fresh Market to hear these two songs in a row:

I love good harmony. the end.
i'm getting a calendar.
carry on with your normal, scheduled lives.
happy friday eve,
kate

Flash Mobsters

Does anyone else LOVE flash mobs???

I could watch them for hours and wish so badly that I'd run into one.

Pretty sure this coincides with the idea of my life being a musical. If only this happened in the everyday.
Often I look around and wait for others to dance or sing when I feel a certain emotion.
But, alas, it's left up to me. Most often I do dance or sing and just look like a fool.
Just think...if hundreds of people would just join me...it'd be a youtube sensation!

Happy dreamin' Mundee,
Kate
